Architecture is a branch of Engineering and Engineering will not exist without Mathematics. Everything in Architecture is made up of calculations and details to attain near perfection. A single mistake in numbers might lead to a malfunction to the finished project.
According to the ancient Roman architect Marcus Vitruvius, without symmetry and proportion no temple can have a regular plan. Preciseness in ratio is the key in construction. A good building should satisfy the three principles. Durability, utility and beauty.
Architecture and mathematics, specifically geometry, both have one thing in common. They deal with patterns. When it comes to the design, an architect should be meticulous starting from his blueprint until the day carpenters raise a building from the ground.
The temple of Parthenon will never exist without architecture. The famous Statue of Liberty was carefully designed and calculated in order for it to stand firm in the middle of the sea. All of the buildings, simple or intricate, started from a vision. And that vision will be implied to geometrical calculations.
Aside from calculations, measurement in architecture also matters. Every architect has their measuring materials such as rulers, t-squares and meter sticks. Every building has a boundary when it comes to land area, space and height.
A building or any form of figure is measured in meters or stories and land area by square meters or hectares. Aside from architects, workers and carpenters also play a big role in the making. The ones involved should be coordinated. When the numbers are right and constant and measurements in place, all that is needed is a builder’s skill and top of the line materials for a good and sturdy building to rise.
So whenever you enter a building, imagine what kind of process it has gone through just to ensure your needs, pleasure and safety.
