RISD (Rhode Island School of Design) Freshman Year Final Project By Jessica Luscher RISD BArch 2014 This video shows my work for my Final Project in Nade Haley’s Second Semester Spatial Dynamics Freshman Studio at RISD. My prompt was to research an artist, designer or architect and lead an investigation/create a piece of art based on what I learned. I chose to research the work of the international Architecture Firm, Coop Himmelblau, focusing primarily on one of their most recent projects, a modern 30-floor tower that they call Town Town, which is currently being built on the outskirts of Vienna. What drew me to this building was its energy-active, moving facade. Using the Town Town Facade as a starting point, I began designing and building my own moving sheets of aluminum and stainless steel, experimenting with numerous patterns. My metal sheets eventually evolved into stainless steel-framed cubes which flatten, flex, extend, or hold their 90 degree angles, depending on where pressure is applied. This video shows my project and how my cubes move. This project was completed May 2010 and I am now a Sophomore at the Rhode Island School of Design, studying Architecture.
