People always say to start the new year, you must have a fresh look but this doesn’t necessarily mean you should focus on your hair per se or get a pedicure. Fresh look can also mean a home addition courtesy of your trusted design firm’s custom home design services. Mind you, home designers and architects are busy round the clock so if you know someone from this field of expertise, better make him sit down to discuss the drafting. Ca homes are usually big but I try to keep mine modest for as long as it’s well ventilated.

I rummaged through my phonebook for the numbers of my high school friends who are now affiliated with architectural design firms in California. Most of them are renowned architects in Riverside – the area where I live – and I’ve read tons of articles about their outstanding projects in glossy mags like California Home & Design Magazine and Los Angeles Magazine so there’s no doubt a request for a simple room addition from a designer friend will turn out spectacular.

My first call to Gabby, the ace student in our high school batch, was a success! After exchanging pleasantries, I went directly to the purpose of my call and he was thrilled as I revealed he was my first choice of designer. He said he’s currently wrapping up a project related to landscape, this architect in Riverside never leaves his work half-baked so even if we’re friends, I have to patiently wait for his availability. In two weeks time, Gabby says I’ll hear from him and that ends our conversation.

I waited two weeks and while in the midst of a new anthropology development one day, the doorbell rang. I opened the door and standing on my Key Hidden Here doormat was my good old chum, Gabby, whom I warmly welcomed into my humble home. He boosted my ego when he said I did a great job with the parlor. He liked my choice of colors and the fact that I bravely combined terra cotta with ocean blue. He told me not everybody can get away with this.

Gabby proceeded to look around the house, inspected the area in which I plan to have the extra room built, and on the small pad in his hand jotted numeric figures which he combined in equations I don’t even remember taking up in my Math class.

Majority of Gabby’s previous projects are mansions on sprawling lands which were featured on TV’s lifestyle programs and high society magazines. So now, as I sit and watch in awe as his team works on my house, I can’t help but picture my simple, yet fabulous home on The Lifestyle Channel.
