On Sunday, January 31, 2010, members of Bethany Primitive Baptist Church gathered on 7 beautiful acres in south Forsyth County (Atlanta, Georgia) at the future site of their new sanctuary and held a formal groundbreaking ceremony launching the construction phase of their relocation project. After several weeks of mostly dreary weather, this Sunday afternoon was warm, with a beautiful blue sky and bright, winter sun. A good number of members came out for the ceremony, and lingered afterwards to enjoy fellowship in the warm weather. Many of our younger members especially enjoyed the break from the winter cold. Also attending the ceremony were principals from architectural firm Randall-Paulson, general contractor RW Smith, civil engineering firm Woodruff & Associates, and Roberts Commercial real estate. The congregation posed for several photographs featuring ceremonial shovels. Before the picture-taking ended, several wet clods of earth were turned over, signaling our intentions. If weather permits, site work will begin this week with demolition of one of the existing houses and preparation of the building pad. We pray for many more sunny days like this one in the weeks ahead as earth-moving begins. Bethanys new sanctuary was designed by architectural firm Randall-Paulson with gothic style elements, to be finished in brick with stone accents.
